Looking for some help to build a rock structure.

Postby five&dime » Sat Feb 25, 2012 9:40 am

I want to add a vertical pillar to my tank. I have an idea in mind. Basically want a 3 point legged column that is fairly tall (probably a bit taller than any other structure in the tank) and has a flat wider top. I want to place this in the negative space b/t my 2 main rock structures. My idea would require attaching rocks together which I have never done. Would anyone be willing to help me try and knock that out either this weekend or next?

Beers, frags etc would be offered for the help.

Want it placed kind of to the right of the center. Where the large rock is just sitting on the sand.

are you using new rock? If so is it dry rock or live rock? I've found that dry rock is super easy to work with. I personally like pukani. you can easily drill it, chisel out parts and even cut it with a hacksaw (to form a base for instance)

I used 2 part epoxy and some really slim cpvc pipe (with 1/2" OD ) and a 5/8" masonry drill bit. it was pretty simple. you don't even have to epoxy everything, just make sure you epoxy the pipe into the base to create a sort of "pillar" then you can connect the rock like legos

I went to AA this weekend looking for the right rocks but still haven't found what I'm looking for. As soon as I do, I will follow up.

Thanks!

Have you built this yet? Did you take pic as you went? Would love to see it. I plans to do some like this also and one floating formation.
